What to Expect at Tryout Clinics:
- We will teach and introduce the basic skills required for the season.
- Learn the material for the actual tryout, including the "School Song", a jump, dance, and sideline cheer.
- Coached will observe soft skills such as attitude, sportsmanship, encouragement of others, enthusiasm, and overall energy.
What to Expect at Tryouts:
- Tryouts will be in pairs (groups of two).
- All material will be performed in front of a small panel of judges. Judges will direct you on when to perform each skill.
- Placement will be posted by Saturday of tryout week.
- Correct situational cheer (offense/defense)
What Judges are Looking for at Tryouts:
- Strong Energy - We want to see you smiling and having fun!
- A solid understanding of the materials taught at clinics.
- Sharp and Correct Motion Placement
- Sidleine Cheer - Strong, loud voices with spirited energy.
- School Song - Sharp motions, correct placements, and loud, proud delivery.
- Dance - Good energy and performance, making it fun to watch.
How to Prepare for Tryouts:
- Attend Open Gyms and all tryout clinics. Ask a question if you're unsure about any areas.
- Practice - Many repetitions will be needed for memorization.
- Practice in front of a mirror to check your motion placements and overall energy. (Make sure you're smiling the whole time.)
- Open Gyms in April are optional but highly recommended to help you get started in cheer!
