Sideline Cheer Tryouts

Sideline Team Tryouts: Grades 8th - 12th (2026-27 School Year)

Sideline Cheer tryouts will be held separately from competition tryouts and will take place at each athlete’s home school campus. This change is designed to build stronger school pride, increase program awareness, and create a more comfortable, familiar environment for athletes.

For the 2026 season, Sideline Cheer will NOT be required for JV Competition athletes. Sideline is still strongly encouraged for 8th graders and up, as it will help athletes grow in confidence, sharpen performance quality, and continue developing their skills. Sideline IS required for Varsity Competition athletes.

Athletes will register for their respective school’s tryouts below:

Lakeville North Location
Clinics: Wednesday, April 29 | 3:30 - 5:45 pm
Tryouts: Saturday, May 2 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
(Athletes will be assigned specific time slots.)

Lakeville South Location
Clinics: Wednesday, April 29 | 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Tryouts: Saturday, May 2 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
(Athletes will be assigned specific time slots.)

Tryout Requirements

What to Expect at Tryout Clinics:

We will teach and introduce the basic skills required for the season.
Learn the material for the actual tryout, dance, and sideline cheer.
Coach will observe soft skills such as attitude, sportsmanship, encouragement of others, enthusiasm, and overall energy.

What to Expect at Tryouts:

Tryouts will be in pairs (groups of two)
Performed in front of coaches and scored on material
Placement will be announced on Saturday (day of tryout)!

What Judges are Looking for at Tryouts:

Strong Energy - We want to see you smiling and having fun!
A solid understanding of the materials taught at clinics.
Sharp and Correct Motion Placement
Dance - Good energy and performance, making it fun to watch.

How to Prepare for Tryouts:

Attend Open Gyms and all tryout clinics. Ask a question if you're unsure about any areas.
Practice - Many repetitions will be needed for memorization.
Practice in front of a mirror to check your motion placements and overall energy. (Make sure you're smiling the whole time.)
